Main topic: Impact of "dot-socialism" on the Internet end-to-end principle. Dot-socialism as coined by K. Kelly (Wired Magazine) and when applied to the Internet relates to the trend where masses of individuals cooperate by means of social tools and collaboratige technology, e.g. Facebook, Googledocs. This is a trend where the Internet end-user is a provider of content, but above all, this trend is reverting the basic principles of Internet access. The impact on end-to-end architectures, which started with the rise of "middle boxes" such as Network Address Translators and firewalls and which has been partially bypassed by the rise of Peer-to-Peer and technical workarounds such as the Simple Traversal of UDP over NAT (STUN), is now reverting to the older Internet paradigm of client/server where clients were dumb terminals just serving the purpose of accessing remote services and applications.
